Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance between the centre of one pupil to the centre of the other. Having a correct PD makes sure your eyes match up with the optical centre of your lenses. Otherwise, you will feel unwell after wearing the glasses, and the vision of the eyes will be affected. If this number was not provided on your prescription by your eye care professional, you can measure it yourself. Each set of prescription lenses has an "optical centre" that is determined by the pupillary distance. The pupil distance is used to determine where you look from the lens of the glasses and should be as accurate as possible. For more information about PD, please click here

  • Most women have a PD between 58 - 63 mm.
  • Most children have a PD between 50 - 55 mm.
  • Take a few measurements for consistency
  • For bifocal and progressive lenses, two PD values (OD & OS) are needed
